Tad Thong Waterfalls: the abandoned waterfalls hidden in Luang Prabang, Laos

Tad Thong Waterfalls is likely a place you’ve never heard of, and don’t feel bad about that! Most people come to Luang Prabang with a short bucket list that includes the stunning {albeit crowded} Kuang Si Waterfalls. Laos has no shortage of waterfalls to explore and visitors shouldn’t limit themselves to only the most visually appealing and well-known. Those looking for a crowd-less cascade of water off-the-beaten-path should head to Tad Thong Waterfalls for a jungle trek and fresh water to cool-off in. It’s also a great place to play “Jane looking for Tarzan” in.

the Chomphet hike: hidden temples + trails in Chomphet District, Laos

While Luang Prabang may not be known for its hiking the way that Vang Vieng is, it only takes a ferry ride across the Mekong to find quality trekking in Chomphet. The ferry ride to the “Chomphet Hike” trailhead takes only a few minutes, but the difference between the city and its neighbouring village will make you feel like you’ve traveled hours. Chomphet’s side of the Mekong is much less developed and significantly less visited, making the hike an easy detour from tourist congestion. Though you won’t find tourists on the hike, you will discover five different temples, including Wat Long Khoune, and side of local life in Laos many visitors miss out on.

Tam Thanh Mural Village: the painted fishing village near Hoi An you cannot miss

While doing my Hoi An research, I came across an article about a small fishing village about 40-minutes by hired car from the city filled with hand-painted murals down its many tiny alleyways and side streets. Like many Instagram hotspots, the final product photo from Bai Tho tells a story far from the reality of getting your ass up the mountain. It’s quite a straight forward hike, but it’s also closed to the public, making it a sneaky thing to do as well as a bit dangerous.

Kutná Hora is a city located in the Bohemian region of the Czech Republic that is frequented by tourists. Despite the number of people who trek out to the UNESCO town, it’s quiet and easy to see everything in half a day if you’re ambitious {a little longer if you move slower}. With delicious bistros and interesting churches, Kutná Hora is a town just a 1-hour train trip outside of Prague.

an alternative Instagram guide to London: where most people go for pics + where to head instead

There are staple Instagram spots in every destination; stunning landmarks, cafés with perfected interiors, and signature street art. But, I’ll be the first to admit, it means there is a lot of “sameness” on the internet. Today, I’m sharing some alternative spots in London for photos that are less crowded, less visited, and less Instagram-famous.

a café guide to Prague, Czech Republic: the best hidden cafés + where to find them

Prague is quickly catching the attention of happy café-hoppers looking for the right ambience and a delicious cup of drip. I was out amongst the architecture of the city and its cobblestone streets for 12 hours almost every day I was in Prague, only escaping the cold for brief interludes in hidden cafés I would stumble upon. The best places are always the ones that are harder to find, away from main roads, or hidden in plain sight— these cafés are no exception!

We all get sick of seeing the same stuff repeated time and time again on blogs, Instagram, and travel T.V. shows, but Prague, a city visited by millions every year, has so many spots that get missed, works of art that never get noticed, and bars that are only regular-ed by locals— true hidden gems of the city!
