where to find affordable high tea in London
Afternoon tea is something that is quintessentially British, thus no trip to England is complete without it. Your visit to the big city doesn't mean you have to spend big for the tea time experience.
But what if I told you you can have high tea at The Ivy Chelsea Garden for only £8.75 between 3-5 p.m.!? Compared to some places, especially in South Kensington, this is a total steal.
It's a very basic set up. You make a reservation online for the time and date that works for you. You may also call if you prefer. Let them know how many people will be in your party. Once you show up you'll be seated and treated like absolute royalty. There are flowers everywhere you look in the restaurant. The wallpaper is floral. The pictures in golden frames hanging on the wall are of flowers. The garden out back is green and lush. Unfortunately, the Insta-famous door was being pulled down and reconstructed at the time Bailey and I went, so we didn't get 'that' shot. ;)
The 'Cream Tea' set brings with it 3 raisin scones, fresh sliced strawberries, clotted cream, jam, and your choice of a pot of tea or coffee. I settled on a traditional English Breakfast tea as recommended by the waiter, but Bailey grabbed a cappuccino. We were both hungry enough that we ordered two sets so that we could each have 3 scones and the works.
The food was delicious. Strawberries were juicy and the scones tasted warm and freshly baked. My tea was the perfect accompanment.
The Ivy Chelsea Garden is the perfect place to catch up with friends or an elegant afternoon out. It offers a beautiful atmosphere and excellent service!
Also, Bailey and I took heaps of bathroom mirror selfies, because we're classy individuals. The hand soap in this marble tiled bathroom, on a real note, smelt like walking into a shop of fresh flowers. I thought about asking how much it cost to buy a bottle...
